Congrats, you have an Elaphe rufodorsata, also known as Chinese Gartersnake, or Red-backed ratsnake. I just acquired a fairly long-term captive recently myself from a friend of mine in NY. I've found little info, so relied on the guy I got mine from for info. Provide a fairly large water dish. You may want to have a moist area in the cage as well. They apparently like fresh water, so change daily. From what little info I have read on them, they may prefer cooler temps, maybe like a mandarin ratsnake, because they are afterall from China/Korea. They reportely eat fish and frogs in captivity, but because of this diet and the fact they are usually wild caught, can harbor a lot of parasites. I would recommend a vet check and purging. Otherwise, I hear they can go down hill very fast. Try small feeder fish (avoid goldfish)in the water dish. My friend says the one I have used to fish them out. My friend also stated he got this one on pinkies, but he hasn't eaten them for me since I got him a week or so ago. I am going to try feeder fish myself. They are neat little snakes. A bit nervous, but not bitey as far as I can tell. Provide hiding spots for it. As soon as I have mine sexed, I would like to find a mate and breed them. They are live bearers like our garter/ribbon snakes.

Good luck and please post any info you may find on them!!

: I picked this guy up in a pet store today. He was listed as a "Chinese Corn Snake" but had pretty much no other info available. I posted his pics to the Corn forum, but they suggest I post him here. I thought I had him IDed as a E.bimaculata, but the Corn Forum and "whats this snake" forum think its a E.rufodorstata. I need care sheets on this guy. Thanks all!
