In Reply to: Cooling Taiwan Beauty Snakes- A question... posted by Steve House on November 24, 1999 at 21:02:55:
: I am getting ready to cool my colubrids, but need some information concerning Taiwan Beauty Snakes. How long is it necessary to cool adult Tiawans, and at what temperature? Thanks!
I bred mine by accident this past season. They were three years old(cb 96) but the previous owner did not feed them enough. I had them for only six months and they went from three feet to five. I had them housed seperately in sweater boxes and put one with the other momentarily for cleaning purposes and heard a lot of racket coming from the box. When I looked I saw the male courting the female so I left them together. The next morning I saw them hooked up. Shortly thereafter I palpitated for eggs and felt seven. Eventually I hatched only one of seven. One week after the first clutch hatched she laid again, ten eggs. I hatched only two out of that clutch. This was with absolutely no deliberate effort at all. Currently I have them cooling at about 70 f. In one month I will pair them up again. I know they will breed but this time I hope to have a much higher hatch rate due to their maturity and previous breeding. I know this doesn't answer your specific question but it obviously isn't very difficult to breed these guys. The only observation I can offer at this time is that they are handling the lower temps. just fine. Good luck. Dan
