In Reply to: Leucistic Rat Snake Not Eating , Please Help!!! posted by Michelle on February 22, 2002 at 18:33:33:
I've had many obsoletas over the years, and every one of them would fast randomly at no certain time of the year for no apparent reason. Eventually they would start eating again. I had a 6.5' black rat that wouldn't eat more than 4 months out of the year, and I had him for about 3 years before turning him loose. If the snake is showing noticeable weight loss you might try administering probiotics into her system. Probiotics can be very helpful in keeping pathogens such as giardia, coccidia, or pseudomonus in check provided they havent gotten too much of a strong hold on the snake. If thats the case the snake needs to be checked out by a
"qualified" vet. The only thing you said that concerns me is that the snake has lost weight. However, if the snake was eating enough to where she was a little plump, 2oz. may not be that bad of a weight loss for a months time. What was the total weight of the snake? Anyway hope some of this is helpful.
