What is the approximate length of the male?
Believe it or not he is likely getting into breeding mode. My males of the taiwans and the blue beauties go off feed when preparing to breed. The females never do.
Taiwans routinely start breeding at 18 months of age, and if yours is of adequate size this may be the reason.
They do not require brumation to reproduce, so the fact he wasn't brumated will have no effect.
