In Reply to: Horrible conditions in a pet store......... posted by Brian Baker on February 12, 2002 at 16:51:20:
: Okay guys and gals, got a major question. Who inspects and makes pet stores maintain healthy conditions?? I just returned from a pet store and was just appalled by the conditions. I found numerous snakes and lizards without water. Every enclosure was just infested with feces. One enclosure with anoles was very nasty, and had atleast one that I could see, dead anole. It had been there for a while because its eyes were totally gone!! Found one snake with a very severe case of mouth rot! I asked what they were doing about it and if the snake could even eat. The guy said the snake eats no problem and that after it eats he srapes its mouth out and treats it with hydrogen peroxide!! I told him that his way of treating it would not cure the infection and the snake needed to be taken to a vet and properly treated! The guy acted like it was no big deal. But I can tell you the snake was in pain. Looked like it had no teeth and was just really in bad shape. Made me furious! Saw a fat tail that was just about dead. Skin and bones. I just couldnt believe what I was seeing! So now I am dead set on doing something about this shameful treatment of animals. They should have their license revoked!! If anyone can point me in the right direction I am going to try and get something done. Words cant explain how mad I am!
