I was feeding snakes one day and sometimes I will leave the cage open to refresh water. After I was done feeding and watering all the snakes I noticed that one of my female trans pecos was missing out of her cage. She was in a 20gal I inherited from a friend. I tore the house apart to no avail. Continuously throughout the week I was looking under, over, and inside everything. Even made some homemade snake traps out of 3L bottles. Well, after I had all but given up I noticed out of the coner of my eye that she was inside her cage?!? Was I completely insane? Upon further inspection I notice a missing rubber gasket on the bottom of the cage intended for a heat rock cord. She had been underneath her cage the whole time! Good thing I had left the screen top on.
My stupid mistake, lol.

: One night my wife and I were getting ready to go to bed. We had been working on the bathroom putting in a new shower unit all day and I was pretty wore out. I had just slipped into bed and the wife had went in to use the bathroom. All of a sudden she just said "Oh my gosh, honey, honey, honey......" I thought she had seen a spider or something that crawled out of the hole in the floor where the bathtub used to be. So I got out of bed to "dispatch" of the offending critter, and when I get into the bathroom, what do I see? My wife sitting on the toilet pointing to my rat snake all curled up on a towel in the floor!! She is still scared of snakes and all she could get to come out was "honey". I havent laughed so hard in a long time! The rat snake is only about 5 months old and around 18" long. Not real big and I didnt think he could push up the screen top enough to get out. I have 2 lights on top of it and thought that would keep him in until he got bigger! Well needless to say I taped the screen down, and the next day went and bought some of the clips for it. I am just lucky my wife saw him before he had the chance to find a good hiding spot! My advice is to anyone who gets a tank with the screen that sits over the top, is to go ahead and get the clips too. Will save you little trouble later on.
