Is something wrong?

I have a Texas ratsnake that until last week had carpet as bedding. I changed to aspen, but I noticed that the snake is spending most of the time either on top of it's hide box or just below the lid. Could it be that the aspen is making the temps go up? The overhead lamp has a 100 watt light bulb. Thanks for any advice!
