I don't handle most of my snakes very much at all. I also have about 40 snakes, so taking the time to handle them all is just not possible.
Fortunately though, snakes are a creature that do not desire attention like many other animals. More often they just tolerate handling, and some are so docile it is mistaken for them enjoying it.
I don't look at snakes as pets though. Many will disagree, but they are just not pet oriented animals. I keep my animals to observe, and learn of their behaviors and breeding habits in ways that are not possible with observance in the field.
There are drawbacks in not handling your snakes though, the main one being a jumpy or agressive snake. I do handle my boas with some regularity, and I try to handle the carpet pythons more often than others as well just to keep them accustomed to it and limit the chances of taking a bite.
Other than cage cleaning and other required maintenance though, I may go months without handling most of my colubrids just for the sake of holding them.
