Hi Fab,
Thanks for the reply. I've got mine only 3 weeks back. It's a good feeder and its behaviour is somewhat similar to yours. At the risk of boring everyone else on this forum, I've already posted some of its details earlier. As you, Mark and others can attest, it's a very pretty and interesting specie although I doubt it could ever be as docile as " the tamest boa."
In Malaysia, you won't get hassled if you stick to non-CITES species, otherwise there'll be endless red-tape unless buying from a registered supplier. You don't even need any permit to herp or collect wildlife so long as it's not on the protected list.
Luckily for Malaysian herpers, there's quite a variety of snakes to choose from locally. The enthusiasts here are generally from either Penang or Kuala Lumpur, the capital. As can be seen, it's a rather small community as the majority of herpers go for lizards e.g. iguanas. People here usually roll their eyes at the thought of anyone wanting to own snakes. To most of them, a good snake is meant to be dead or eaten! Is it the same Stateside?
: Francis, please excuse me for never answering your question on taming gonyosomas!
: Did you get yours in the end? You are from malaysia right? is it possible to keep any species of reptile?
: anyway...taming oxys.....i dont think theres any trick to it....like you said you can handle it only outside its cage. thats what i do..i pull it out with a stick and then delicatley start to handle it. at first it would jump out of my hands but it progressively started to tolerate handling more and more till now it acts like the tmest of boas!
: i think what helped this process is not having any hide boxes (thanks Mark for the suggestion) and it being in my dads study which is a room with lots of people traffic.
: Let me know how youre doing with yours and good luck!
: fab.
