: : I just got two pairs of blacksnakes that were in brumation since Dec. 1st. They got to me and were at room temp for a while in the post office, and now I am wondering if I should judt keep them out and breed them early (if they will) or try to put them back in for another month or so. Any suggestions? Thanks
:
: You should make this decision based on the appearance of the animals. If they look fat and healthy, I don't think another month of brumation would hurt. Cool them down slowly and they should be just fine. Remember that in the wild warm spells are common in the winter months in most of e. obsoleta's range, so a brief stint at room temperature should not hurt them or affect their breeding potential.
: On the other hand, if the snakes look underfed or skinny I WOULD NOT brumate them further.
: This is a choice you will have to make based upon your evaluation of their current condition.
: Good luck,
: Dwight Good
