quite variable in color. I have a pair and they will not get completely black. I've heard that some of the Kentucky black rats have gray rat snake influence in them that comes up from the Mississippi River area. They definately get blacker and darker with age, but will retain some pattern. Good luck James. Nice looking snakes Brian.
