Texas rats usually have blotches that are larger and closer together than other subspecies. Juveniles also have a bolder band going across the head through the eyes than what you would normally see in juvenile grey, yellow, everglades, and eastern black rats. If this snake is 4 months old it shouldn't be too long before you start seeing yellow appearing in the ground color along with red between the scales. Hope this helps
