In terms of what you were saying about brumating them at low 60s - are they at this temp. all the time? This might be the cause of your problems - dropping the temp at night to low 60s is fine as long as its back up in the day but 60s is still too high for full bruamtion. If they are at this temperature all the time there's a chance they will go off their food as its too cold but will maintain a high activity level etc. which means they will lose weight and condition - possibly even dying.
Don't know if this could be the case with your male?
