I've seen a lot of black rats that are really very brownish, so I'd be careful about that. I don't think there's a naturally solid black rat snake.
: How about....a BLACK rat snake!Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta. Not all get solid black. Most, if not all have white under their chin and bellies.
: Or a melanistic janseni, i beleave they are solid black, but not 100% sure, only seen pix.
