: Tx ratsnakes, as with many ratsnakes, are quit variable in color. That black rat you have pictured is an exceptional snake, being pure black like that. The Tx rat you have pictured is also a very nice snake, it is an orange phase Tx rat. Black ratsnakes do not range into Tx. I live here in Austin and that is pretty typical coloration for the snakes around here.
