A couple of years ago my partner and friend Terry Parks whom I have shared many a martini or two with had almost no knowledge of reptiles. He knew I played with snakes and we got him one for a pet and most of you know where that goes LOL.
Here it is just a short time later and Mr. Parks is gaining a vast amount knowledge of elaphe. Even though his "hands on" knowledge is still blooming he (and myself) have learned more here than any person could teach in a dozen years.
I am into pits now but my passion is "hots". My reptile education is very "old school" I learned from a man who was around when Raymond Ditmars was the herpetologist of the time, Stebbins was still working in the field and Marlin Perkins was the curator of the Bronx Zoo. I am not this old but where I got my information was. Captive breeding, individual husbandry, and brumation were unheard of.
What I am getting at is that these forums have taught people like Terry updated things I have to relearn because of the changing ideas and limited resources of the old days. I have no problem refering people to Terry when it comes to elaphe information becuse I know if he does not know the answer he has a great place to come get it. Mr. Parks is becoming very specialized in elpahe and is a fine example of how powerfull and important this internet and these forums are to herpetology.
Terry often refers to me has his mentor well I think that resposiblity falls on the people of this forum.
Plus you should all be commended for teaching that old fart a few new tricks anyway (lord knows me and his wife have tried LOL).
I am kinda proud of the old dude too.
Enough of the mushy stuff I am getting all choked up LMAO.
