Appears to be an everglades to me. Though I am not familiar with the range of everglades anymore. Some distinguishing characteristics of everglades are are red or partially red tounge and orange eyes.

: I live in South Florida, very close to where Alligator Alley and US hwy 27 intersect. Below is a picture of an adult rat snake I found on the hwy a couple years ago, just a few hundred yards from that intersection. The habitat in the area is mostly marsh, and very few trees or shrubs.

: I have heard there are very few true everglades rats left, and that the yellow rats have basically moved in and taken over the gene pool. But I've been seeing snakes that look lk ethis being sold as everglades rats. I've also seen yellow rats with much darker lines.

: About 15 miles up US-27 is a wildlife management area that extends out into the everglades towards the Seminole indian reservation. In the spring you can find babies like the one below all over the place. I've caught a few, but don't keep them for long because of fears of parasites spreading to my captive bred stock. Any opinions as to whether this is a yellow, everglades, or intergrade?
