In Reply to: Trans Pecos Rat....Any info?? posted by Jen on November 11, 2001 at 16:33:46:
I have several transpecos ratsnakes that I currently maintain. I have also successfully bred them. I keep them in the same way that I keep all of the other snakes that I keep. I have not had any problems whatsoever. I have heard from others that they have had problems with regurgitating and getting them to feed. I live in Arizona where it is very dry and hot. Transpecos ratsnakes originate from the deserts of West Texas where is is also extremely dry and hot. I would give them plenty of ventilation (to lower the humidity) and keep them warm (78-87F). I am confident that if you keep them warm and dry that you will enjoy keeping them. The hatchlings can at times be a little nippy, but they are generally much more calm than the majority of ratsnakes kept in captivity and as adults can be tamed down very well.
