Taxonomists are still trying to reclassify the N. American Elaphe into new genera. It's true, Old World Elaphe are different, and mandarina is no exception, but they are still an Elaphe, like taeniura, moellendorffi, and schrencki. As a matter of fact, I think they are more like schrencki than the others, except they are very secretive and nocturnal, not like schrencki behavior. They are shaped like and docile like schrencki though, but don't get as big. If you like Asian ratsnakes, you should go "gaga" over mandarina. If you don't know anything about Asians, I'd recommend you get a Russian rat first :)
