If he does have a retained shed, the most important thing is to make sure the eye scales are shed. You may want to take him to a qualified reptile vet or someone who knows how and what to remove. Also, I have manually shed snakes with entire stuck sheds. I soak them in warm water for about an hour and try and gently coax an edge of the shed up off the body (i try and start near the head) and then gently peel the shed away working from there. This can be unsettling to the snake, especially a Spilotes. If all else fails, just wait and it'll all come off with the next shed hopefully. Goo luck.
