Assuming that the temparature is sufficient for the snake to be properly active (if you're in the process of cooling him down for the winter he may be less inclined to exert himself) and he has access to a good sized water bowl (large enough to soak in if he feels the need) and some rough surfaces to help with the shedding process itself (bark, rocks etc.) then I would be inclined to leave him for the time being. My male occasionally takes his time for no apparent reason but always gets round to it eventually and always sheds in one piece.
