: : : Okay, so let me see if I got this right? Out of the blue 10-12 years ago an albino bairds just pops up? We're talking about a snake native to North America and although a wild caught animal has yet to be found on the other side of the world they have them. Come on that's a little far fetched at best.
: : : I was thinking of getting in on those as I would say I'm one of the biggest lovers of bairds rats in this forum. To ease my mind and feel I could sell them as pure I thought I would have to breed them to an albino obsoleta and find out of the babies came out albino or normal, that should clear the whole thing up right? But, to do that I would have to do something I don't think should be done.
: : : Option two, I could just sell them and say "who knows" I "assume" they're pure. Well, that made me think of something my mother told me when I was about 9 years old. She said when you "assume" things you make an ass(u)me. So I went with the not liked but best choice for me given my view on these, not to get them at all.
: : : I'm not going to ever say anything for 100% fact but, I would stake $1000 I don't have those animals are NOT pure. I've seen pied bairds as well and while that project isn't for me I think it would be a better choice then the almost assured hybrid albino bairds.
: : : Oh and second (or whatever number I should be on)thing to consider. If you ask the person selling them where this bloodline came from in the states I would bet a lot of money they're all going to go back to one person. The people they'll go back to is known for a fact to be a hybid person. I'm assuming her found something he thought would sell and is selling them through a friend to cover his back and not draw attention. You're welcome to email me if you want any other names or info I won't share in a forum.
: : : Good luck,
: : : Adam Block
: : : PS If you have any info that can 100% back up these animals are pure, email me solid proof! I will pay 4x the going albino baird rate for animals not related to the mentioned stock or for wild caught albino animals.

: : Hey, Adam.
: : What's this hobby coming to, if people can be so greedy as to misrepresent their stock in such a way, just to make more of a buck? More than ever the reputation of a dealer is worth everything. I don't buy anything from someone I don't know or trust because of the good things I've seen or heard. This is why in business, the "good name" of a company has a monetary value. In the real world of business, false representations can land the dealer in court with heavy retribution to pay. Thanks for pointing out the possible shady side of this deal. And I'd appretiate it if you'd e-mail me the name of the person you think might be starting these "pseudo" albinos. Thanks.

: Terry,
: I don't like talking behind peoples backs without proof, but Adam and I have discussed the albino bairds before. Lets just say that one of the parties involved wrote an article 7 or 8 yrs ago about hybrids. The same indivudle shot down a statment that I posted several yrs ago regarding blairi x ruthveni hybrids eventually being passed off as pure alterna. Having said this, albino subocs popped up in Europe before or around the same time as the first recorded one was collected in west Texas. This is probably not a species that would easily be hybridized, let alone refined to look pure. Many of you may have seen the photo of the albino bairdi "from specimens originated from Texas" in the Elaphe Monograph. If that animal is a mutt, someone did a very good job breeding the contamant out of it! I'm a locale fanatic but I also keep a few honestly represented hybrids. People have gone around in circles on the subject, weather you agree with hybrids or not, the must be sold as what they are. Bottom line is - do your research! If someone can't give you a verifiable story, it's frobably BS....
: Andrew Godambe
since I've probably already opened a can of worms I may as well go on-
The gentleman that I'm referring to (not the one that actually posts the ads)is a geneticist that breeds "Munchkin cats": fullsized cats with stunted legs! OK, some may argue that somewhere in antiquity Basset Hounds were developed from this genetic defect. However, you don't have to be a tree huggin PETA member to see that directly perpetuating this is just plain wrong. Not to judge someone that I dont personally know, but you've got to be a little skewed to find enjoyment and make profit from this! "Could you send me a pair of cats het. for disabled along with my albino bairds please?" LOL!!!
If I'm going to be critical of others I should at least admit that I've made some brutal spelling errors in my long rant :)
You can burn me now...
