I'm glad to see they're increasing in population in Italy again. They are truly a beautiful snake. One of my favorites by far.
I hate laws that stop you from keeping native snakes that were captive born. I live in Pennsylvania where herp laws are pretty relaxed, but I know that in Georgia they are not allowed to own any native species whether Captive bred or wild. They make no difference in distinguishing them. And in NJ you have to get a permit to keep even harmless colubrids.
