In Reply to: So how was Daytona from a elaphe perspective?????? posted by glenn n nancy on August 20, 2001 at 11:17:22:
Hi Glenn,
The show was fun... it took most of the first day just to see every table. I saw several vendors with ridleyi, but the prices were all over the place. I saw a single pair of yearling situla, lots of blue beauties, albino beauties and plain ol' E. taeniura with no subspecies listed. Bill Mulligan had a great selection of Diones, and there were a couple pairs of mandarina scattered here and there. Silver subocs seemed to be selling well. Didn't see too many flavirufa, but the hideous two-head anery flav that was posted here a while back was there. Yuck. Didn't see a single Baja rat. Compared to IRBA in San Diego, which I attended last year, Daytona was an Elaphe-enthusiast's paradise. I was very disappointed with the number of Elaphe species represented at the San Diego show. The best part about attending Daytona is finally being able to put faces to the names we correspond with throughout the year!
My advice is to not go just for the Elaphe. I don't keep lizards, but there was an amazing assortment of geckos and varanids for sale that were stunning. Its great just to look at what is being bred nowadays. And don't even get me started on the ball pythons.... $25,000?! Gimme a break!
It's quite an experience and I hope you can make it down there next year!
