How old is your Bairdi? And what sex?
I have a pair that is just a year old. The male has always been very mellow and easy to handle. But, even he would rattle his tail when disturbed. The female struck and bit every time I picked her up and musked every time. She has just started to mellow out recently as I have started to handler her more. She is still not as mellow as the male, and I doubt she ever will be, but I can handle her and she no longer strikes. The last couple of times I handled her she didn't musk either.
I think the bairdi are one of the nicer rats temperament wise. With gentle handling and time I am sure your snake will calm down.
