It is morning here now, Soe, and I'm with my cup of coffee. I'm thinking about the people who are ready to make a buck, but do not think so much about the thrill of raising the snakes, which is why the "true" hobbyist loves this hobby. Yes, we put our time, and our money, and our patience to learn into each baby we bring to adulthood. And we are the ones who benefit the most from the experience. Then we are ready to do it again with more of them. Sometimes we want to try something new, however. I for one sometimes sell my adult snakes to make room for more young ones, or a new species.
Recently I sold off my "Kunasir Is." ratsnakes. I still have an albino Japanese rat, but I'm not going to work with that species anymore. I just have too many Asian ratsnakes, and I'm starting to get a few North American forms.
I'm trying the Western green rats this year (Senticolis triaspis intermedia). Mine are from Sonoran stock. Boy, they are fiesty little snakes. It's taking time to tame them, but they are very interesting to learn about.
I don't mind selling off adult snakes, if I'm not going to work with them anymore. But they should get a lot more than babies, like you said. Sometimes I sell off adults because I like working with the babies more, or just want to start a new line. I have a new batch of Russian Amur rats that I'm raising up, and I am selling most of my older ones to make room. There's a good market for mature, and/or proven snakes, and it's a chance to get some people started that wouldn't try the Asians otherwise...one positive thought anyway.
Well, I'll leave you with that. Start thinking about how you will raise all those babies, Soe. Good luck, and keep us posted. Hope you're having a nicer day :-)
