Black rat snakes can get over eight feet, and are the largest subspecies of the E. obsoleta complex.&nsbp; They also have the reputation of being the tamest of the five obsoleta subspecies. The way I figure it, if I wanted to get a big colubrid, I'd probably want to start with a captive-bred, young black rat snake and watch it grow. And from your perspective, you're already an expert at E. obsoleta with your grey rat snake, and black rats can come pretty cheaply (my local breeder sells normals at CDN$25; albinos, natch, cost more).
: I am looking into getting another rat snake because the grey rat I have is so easy to care for and is a good eater. But I am looking for something that gets larger than a grey rat(grey rats get to about 6'). I am looking for a non aggresive, easy to care for 8'+ snake. any sugestions? I also don't want to spend more than $100.00 Thanks
