: I actually caught my rat snake in font of my house. i keep him in a 50 gallon aquarium he has plenty of places to hide and climb. he seems to like live mice, i say this because he usually eats them after they have been in the cage for about 30 seconds. Plus it is way cooler to watch him eat a live mouse than a frozen one. will i hurt the snake(about 4 ft.) by feeding him 3 or 4 times a week.
Keep the live mice small enough that the snake can easily overpower them. Also put them in a large enough container, like a milk jug, so that the snake can enter when it's ready. I sometimes use a live mouse with a difficult feeder to get them feeding. For some snakes, which only feed during the night, leaving thawed mice for hours might not be a good option either. Just some thoughts.
