In Reply to: Any info on amel gray rats? Where was found?Breeders?etc n/p posted by joe c on July 06, 2001 at 23:20:14:
Troy Hibbitts of Black Belt Reptiles had amel grey rats, but I don't know if he is still working with them. I believe there is a photo on kingsnake.com's Ratsnakes of North America page, under rat snakes of the month perhaps? I heard that the strain was started from a WC albino female from the Memphis, TN area outcrossed to "white oaks" from north Florida. The Barkers of VPI might have info on these animals, I think someone told me that they are working with them now, but I don't know for sure.
There is also a photo of an amel grey rat in Dr. Bechtel's book, "Reptile and Amphibian Variants: Colors, Patterns, and Scales" on page 136.
Take care,
dg
