: Hi Andrew - I think the E. emoryi is one of the best natural looking of the Elaphe family. Most of the popular members of the Elaphe are color morphs, which some have E. emoryi influence. As a true natural snake, it is one of the most underrated. There is the Kisatchee corn which is a natural occuring integrade of the corn and E. emoryi. Actually, I've seen a few more posts about E. emoryi lately, which excites me. I hope there will be alot more discussion and credit given to the E. emoryi. Good luck.
Terry,
I recently read a reprint, "A Reevaluation of Populations of the Corn Snake, Elaphe guttata (Reptilia: Serpentes: Colubridae)in Texas", by: Vaughan, Dixon, and Thomas (1996). Their conclusion is that there are three subspecies of E. guttata in Texas: E. g. emoryi in n. and c. TX; E. g. meahllmorum in s. TX; and E. g. guttata in e. TX. Accordingly, the LA corn would be E. g. guttata.
I believe with the new albino Great Plains rats, and newly i.d.'d southern forms, that there may be more interest in the near future. I believe there's a distinct subspecies fro w. Colorado also. We may be seeing "designer" Great Plains rats in the near future :)
