: I have a grey rat snake that just shed off a skin that was 23" long. I feed him 3 pinkies at a time and he has no problem taking them down how soon should I move to funzies? thanks
Appropriate size of prey is relative to the girth of the snake more so than the length. A prey item should leave only a slight lump if any at all. So the largest prey offered should be the same size or slightly larger than the snake at its thickest point.
There is no reason however to think you have to increase the size of the prey, especially for a snake this small. I believe that multiple smaller prey items are better than a single large one, when this practice is feasible. The increased surface area of the meal by using two or three small mice will allow the meal to be digested faster.
