IMO, yes. The only problem I've heard of people having with them is that they can be a bit aggressive, but this is a problem that can be circumvented easily enough merely by holding the snake before you buy it to make sure it's calm... and in my experience most rat snakes are pretty easy to tame anyways. Other than that, they're great eaters, relatively indestructible, and don't get too big (yeah, they *can* get 7' long, but most I've seen maxed out at around 4-5').
