Beginner info please?

One of my friends recently acquired a snake that has been identified as a black rat. He's never owned a snake before, and I've offered him some advice, but I don't know what specific requirements a rat snake might need. Could someone give me the basic run down to pass along to him? Such as, heat requirements, cage size, what to feed and how often, bedding, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
