yellow rats, anybody keep them?

I just got a ~3 foot wild yellow rat. Right now he's very jumpy and nippy. Can I expect him to gentle?
Also, do keepers commonly use tall cages to allow the snakes to climb? Mine came from 30 feet up in the rafters of an old tabacco shed. He regurged five baby birds a little while later.
