(PIC:) This is a common king, L. g. californiae, one of the most popular pet species in the world, along with the corn snake. This animal was w/c in s.e. Arizona.
Mackensey,
I think ratsnakes and kingsnakes have lots in common, esp. their great personalities and adaptablity to captivity. However, kingsnakes basically are burrowers, and mostly terrestrial, whereas ratsnakes are more aboreal (for most species). Both genera have species that are generalists, only a few have difficult requirements, mostly some kings.
I guess I picked ratsnakes to specialize in because they are even more variable than kings; they hide less, thus more visible; and I think, in general, more personable.
The only Lampropeltis species that I keep are the AZ mtn. kings, and they are really nice. Good luck trying to choose ;-)

: Ok, are rat snakes sort of like king snakes? Like, same personality, etc? Thanks in advance!
: Take care,
