: Did a little herping in West Texas the pass few days, and to say the least, I didn't find much. I blame the weather. The only thing of interest was this yearling male Trans Pecos Rat Snake.
Let me tell you, if that was "ALL" I caught over a couple of days, I would be pretty happy. That is a spectacular find for a wild snake. Albinos often never make it to adulthood because they are more easily seen than their naturally colored relatives, and some also say weaker than a normal phase. Still, to say that this particular snake "isn't much" is a gross understatement in my book. I have herped many states in the US including south Texas, west Texas, south east Texas and south central Texas. I herped for two days between Del Rio and El PAso hoping to find one on a trip a few years back; and would have considered myself very lucky just to have even seen a normal Trans Pecos Rat Snake let alone an albino. I guess I got the bug back in the sixties, as a kid, when I read 'Snakes: The Keeper and The Kept'.
Let me say just one more thing: NICE!
