Rat Snake Feeding

I normaly keep pythons but I have a yellow rat snake I was wondering about. Instead of feeding it one mouse a week, would it be okay or better to feed one rat a month?? I live in South florida and I have heard of them eating rabbits. Anyone have any suggestions??
