To answer your question properly, some variables have to be understood and considered. The Corn snake Elaphe g. guttata is used by many as an industry standard for comparing different snakes as pets. The reason for this is the ease to maintain this animal, it's generally pleasent disposition and attractiveness as well as its reasonable price. By the way the Corn snake is a rat snake also called the red rat snake. The gopher snake is also an excellent pet. Like the corn snake it is easy to care for, some may however argue that it may be slightly more tempermental. Other rat snakes make excellent pets from the US as well as other countries. You have several options to consider. Begin by researching what you think you'll enjoy caring for, then considering what you can actually care for, finally consider the cost. Weigh all your options, study diligently, then make your educated purchasing decision.
Respectfully,
Jarrett
