Redwood Mulch vs. Cypress Mulch

Has anyone ever used redwood mulch as a substrate for their ratsnakes? I have used the cypress mulch in the past but it has been difficult to find on the west coast. Wondering if redwood mulch will cause any harm to the animals. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. ----glenn n nancy
