I just found my first (live) Elaphe bardii last night (after many years of trying!). I picked it up as I wanted to get some good photos of it. When I got home, I read a little about them in Tennant's Texas Snakes and Werler and Dixon's Texas Snakes, and Conant's Field Guide. BTW - the snake was from Pandale, so it isn't a hybrid like the one pictured in my previous post.
I read that most specimens are around 40 inches at adulthood. This snake is 60 inches long (I measured him carefully). Is he a monster? He doesn't look all that much bigger than captive bairdii I have seen?
