Well, good point.
I dont see a large number of people being confused by this change, for all argumentative purpose, these are still the same snakes that the many generations of herpers before us knew.
Black rats are still going to be black rats, yellows, gray. Just imagine if many Elaphe were still coluber (like old taxonomy suggests) would that change local and common names for these animals? Neither will this change.
Let the taxonomists duke it out, we still know what is what (I think?)
I just want to enjoy my animals, im not terribly concerned with what Linneaus would be doing right about now.
