My yellow rat snake regurgitates mice, but not rats?

I am very concerned about this. I have given this particular snake live rats, frozen-thawed rats, and he has never regurgitated them. I have likewise fed it live and frozen-thawed mice. He has never regurgitated any of the rats, but has regurgitated 100% of the frozen-thawed mice (all from same "batch"), and about half the live mice. The environment has been fairly constant, so I'm pretty sure it's not a thermal issue. The snake is a 4 foot adult male, that was originally wild caught (some time ago). My observation of this strange behavior has occured over the span of 10 months.
