: I have been wondering for a very long time why Fox snakes are not
: offered for sale by breeders and dealers. I would appreciate
: any answers. I just do not understand why they are unpopular.
It's not that Fox Snakes are unpopular, it's just a case of people being too lazy to put in the work. They grow slowly, can be picky, and act more like a Pituophis than an Elaphe (for what it's worth, their musk is IDENTICAL to that of Pines and Bulls). Those that take the time to work with them find the experience to be both enjoyable and rewarding. I breed Eastern Fox Snakes, and am never amazed by their unusual behavior. As far as being unpopular, I can't breed enough of them, and folks are more than willing to pay well. Next to Northern Pines, they have become my most inquired about animals.
