: I haven't been able to find much info on the web on Trinket snakes. Does anyone have any pictures and/or care sheets of them posted on the web?
: Thanks
Hi Ken $ all interested,I have been keeping & breedingTRINKET RATS[E.HELENA]for almost 4 years now, with sucess every year, the trick is feeding the females alot![especilly pumping them up ater egg laying],I keep mine sub tropical [temps ranging 75-90],they are kept in large sweater boxes in a rack system with no added heat,on newspaper, always keep a clean water bowl & paper. dropping temps in the nightime 10-20 degrees for a 4 - 6week separation with a male, then you can keep the pair together all year round[you can separate them after her 1st FERTILE clutch of eggs],she will usually CONTINUE TO LAY 4- 10 EGGS every 2 months up to 2-3 clutches, then you can introduce the male again,WATCH THAT THE FEMALE DOES'NT LOSE TOO MUCH WEIGHT,LIKE I SAID BEFORE FEED HER ALOT,AS MUCH AS SHE WANTS & CAN HANDLE!!always have a nest box in the cage all year long, keep it clean,I use moist vermiculite, eggs hatch within 50-65 days @ room temps, nightime drops @ 10 degress is fine,,they are so easy, hardy & they also can show a mean asian rat defensive posture when you don't feed her enough, enough said,GO FOR IT!I am currently incubating my ist clutch of eggs for the season & expect x3 different bloodlines this year,GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!Dave Powell, "SUNNY" MIAMI,fl.
