: Well, an intergrade is as the name implies, its when 2 animals who are closely relateds ranges overlap. Say for instance when speckled kingsnakes from the southwestern portion of their range have the opportunity to encounter desert kings, you will start to notice the further into the range intergrade zone you go, the more like the two ssp they will look. A hybrid is when two seperate species (and some ssp) are bred together to get a whole new animal, which usually only happens in captivity. Many N.A. Ratsnakes are so closely related that in the wild, a excited male rat will probably breed with anything close that it can find.
