In Reply to: My baby transpecos refused the live pinkie...more posted by sue on March 18, 2001 at 09:21:31:
: I put in a live pinkie at about 5pm last night. This morning, it is still there (except that it is dead). My next options are to either force feed her a mouse tail or try a mini-brumation. Anyone want to vote on which one to try next?

I got my baby when she was two weeks old and had never eaten. The breeder told me that at this age the snakes experience an aversion to rodent smell, since they view them as predators. He suggested that I not atttempt to feed her until she's a month old. Then fed a froaen thawed pinkie washed with soap. Rinse well. This worked the first time and I've continued it. She's five months now and eats weekly. If this hadn't worked, I was going to scent the mouse with an anole, since lizards are their natural prey at this age.
