: as for purity or crossed???the ones I saw were bred here.and the guy told me he crossed them when I asked him..he was at the table next to mine....I have no idea who he was or his name even>>...sorry...
As much as "JY" and I have a tendency for the provocative and the resulting head-butting -- the "albino" bairdi are hybrids, with the amel gene introduced from nominate obsoleta.
In the early '90's I saw these snakes (obsoleta x bairdi amels) at several Northeastern shows, and sadly, the individual (whose name I can't recall either) involved in this particular hoax/cross had ALREADY back-crossed them into near-believability at THAT early point in time. They appeared to be large, bairdi-type hatchlings with strong Baird's pattern elements even at that early stage of the game... And at the Staten Island show where I questioned the teenage kid proferring them with his dad - they finally ADMITTED "borrowing" the gene from a T- or T+ E. o. obsoleta -- sorry can't remember which, was almost 10 years ago. (Gives HIGH and EASY time to refine such a "fake" )
Yet another case of insidious misrepresentation, and a wary market for someone who may one day produce the REAL thing.
Don't waste your money -- that is is you have any interest in the genetic integrity of your stock,
Regards,
Bob @ Darkwoods
