: I am currently housing a 6.5ft pair in 3'Wx 2'Dx 1.5'H cages. I would consider this to be the minumum size for this length of snake, and some may consider it too small, as they can be fairly active.
: I am about to build new cages for them soon, because this size cage won't be suitable for them once they reach thier full size. They will eventually be housed in 4x2 cages.
: People's opinions differ on the subject of housing, but I always try to give ample room for my snakes. Taiwans have the possibility of exceeding 8 feet in length, and in my opinion they will benefit from the 4' long cages.
Great advice. I also try to follow the recommendation of cage size being cage length at least 2/3 of the snakes length and cage width being 1/3 the snakes length. That generally puts smaller rat snakes (3-4 feet)in cages with floor space about the size of a 20-gallon long aquarium or 28 quart sweater box, and larger rat snakes (6 plus feet) in a cage with floor space about the size of a 55-gallon aquarium (4'x 2'). Hope this helps!
