Keep in mind that imports (almost all available) can be full of parasites and hard to get started. Wild caught can really be a challenge, though some get really lucky with them. They poop alot, as all the faster metabolism snakes do, and need a large enclosure. I would definately put them in the category of "not-for-beginners". But they are very cool animals, no doubt.

: What does everyone think of Spilotes pullatus? While it isn't even necessarily closely related to Elaphe, it LOVES rats so I guess that makes it a good "rat snake"...Does anyone out there keep them? If so, what issues have you come into? I have a big one (7+ feet) and while he isn't much for human company, he's absolutely fascinating...
