: What does everyone think of Spilotes pullatus? While it isn't even necessarily closely related to Elaphe, it LOVES rats so I guess that makes it a good "rat snake"...Does anyone out there keep them? If so, what issues have you come into? I have a big one (7+ feet) and while he isn't much for human company, he's absolutely fascinating...
The female I've got is an awesome snake... she's movement-oriented enough that I have to wiggle her dead mice for her, but I can deal with that... Very reliable eater, though, and she's got a great personality... despite the reputation these guys have she's never struck at me, and is about as friendly and well-behaved a snake as you could ask for.
